The new Innerbelt Bridge construction is on schedule but the next phase may frustrate commuters. By the end of next week, the East Ninth Street Exit from Interstate 90 east will be closed for two months while renovations are completed to the existing Innerbelt Bridge. The closure will occur on either Sept. 29 or 30 and remain that way until Dec. 1, if renovations go as planned.
The Ontario Avenue Exit will remain open and be the most commonly used detour. Officials with the Ohio Department of Transportation said that Ontario Avenue will not handle the traffic influx and cause massive jams if other routes are not utilized by drivers.
The fastest way around the construction while heading east into downtown Cleveland is on I-490 to I-77 north. This detour will give drivers access to East Ninth Street, East 14th Street, Carnegie Avenue and East 22nd Street from I-77.
